Position Summary

The Business Intelligence (BI) Solutions Architect position is part of the KIK Custom Products – Information Systems team. The incumbent will be responsible for designing, building, implementing BI solutions for the company. This role will work closely with analytics developers. He/she will use his/her technical expertise to bridge the gap between the business problem and the technology solution. The incumbent will support the processes in a standard-based environment, deployed globally and accessible across the organization.


This role is based in Concord, ON but will have responsibilities for global locations with travel requirements ranging from 10-15%.


Solutions Building

  • Lead BI projects during all the phases of the project life cycle, with emphasis on business requirements gathering, quality assurance and user acceptance phases.
  • Design, direct and implement business intelligence solutions, including business requirements, design, development and deployment.
  • Own relationship with the business users and schedule meetings with business users and analytics developers.
  • Be the voice of the business user to the BI/Analytics team accelerating the adoption of new BI projects across the organization.
  • Identify risks with solution and communicate with business users to proactively resolve or mitigate risks/delays to the BI projects.
  • Engage technical and non-technical business users in project communications, using appropriate language and terminology for the intended audience.
  • With business stakeholders define, challenge, and prioritize BI projects.
  • Transform business requirements into BI solutions.
  • Analyze different sources of data and document technical specifications for analytics developers.
  • Support quality assurance and user acceptance tests.
  • Work with analytics developers to guide development, participate in code reviews, to ensure technical and functional integrity of BI projects.
  • Responsible for promoting the BI project to production environments.


BI Training and Governance

  • Schedule and perform BI training sessions with the key business users.
  • Monitor progress and usage of the BI reporting tools across the organization.
  • Work with business users to establish proper governance for creation, publication and sharing of BI reports and dashboards.
  • Own the BI license assignment across the organization.
  • Work with the Director Integration and Analytics and the CIO to establish and design the Business Intelligence Governance across the organization.



  • Provide leadership and direction to the BI/Analytics team ensuring high level of engagement, motivation and innovation.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the capability of the BI practice such as: mentoring employees, promoting technical developments, and building networks.
  • Act as a positive role model and provide architectural expertise, direction, and assistance to BI/analytics developers

BI Practice

  • Develop proficiency in the BI technologies, including but not limited to BI (Power BI, Qlikview), ETL (SSIS) and RDBMS (SQL Server, Azure SQL Server).
  • Stay current in BI industry and business trend through attending networking events, individual learning and participation in BI webinar and conferences.
  • Identify and research relevant technologies, perform Proof of Concepts (POC), prototypes, reviewing and recommending technology trends.
  • Develop, implement and maintain best practices and standard for delivery of quality BI solutions.
  • Document business and technology roadmaps for the BI team.




  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Management, Computer Science, or other technical related field
  • 10+ years of experience in BI projects including
  • 5+ years as a Solutions Architect in BI/Analytics
  • Experience building Power BI reports through a web-based environment
  • Experience training users in BI tools
  • 5+ years of experience building Functional and Technical specifications for BI projects
  • Strong presentation skills, for all business user levels using technical and non-technical language
  • Microsoft SSIS, Visual Studio 2015 and above.
  • Knowledge of cloud applications.
  • Expert knowledge of RDBMS (Oracle, MSSQL) required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Time management and analytics skills.
